Darren is part of the AUC Medicine faculty, preparing students on the Postgraduate Diploma in International Medical Science programme to sit the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and qualify as physicians.

Before joining the University of Central ³ÉÈËÊÓƵ, Darren held postdoctoral researcher and teaching fellow roles at the University of Freiburg, Germany, where he studied how epigenetic modifications contribute to cognitive impairments in the neurodevelopmental disorder, FOXG1 syndrome. His prior doctoral research projects at the Freiburg University Hospital concerned the molecular mechanisms by which brain tumours adopt more aggressive features as they progress. He has also supervised research projects and theses in the areas of molecular medicine, neuroscience, and public health.

At the University of Freiburg, he taught undergraduate Biology and Molecular Medicine students, as well as Human Medicine students preparing to take the German state medical examination. For these programmes, he taught Gross Anatomy and was module lead for Medical Epigenetics. Further to his teaching with the faculty of medicine, he oversaw the design, development, and delivery of interdisciplinary biomedical and neuroscience courses for the Life Science track at the University College Freiburg.

Darren has published in international, peer-reviewed journals, and has presented at conferences and talks in Germany, France, and Japan. He is a member of the Anatomical Society and maintains active collaboration with researchers across the globe.
