Dr Katherine Burn
Katherine is an experienced GP who trained in Oxford and London and then worked for many years in multicultural Blackburn as a Partner. She taught and mentored medical students in her practice. She also taught Clinical Communication Skills at the Royal Blackburn Hospital. Katherine is very interested in how doctors can practise well whilst retaining their humanity and the interplay of psychological and physical presentations of illness. She started teaching medical students at the University of Central 成人视频 in 2018.
Katherine works at the Burnley Campus with 3rd and 4th year medical students. She teaches case based learning, clinical reasoning and has two groups of academic advisees, one in each year group. She continues to play a role in teaching Clinical Communication Skills and designed teaching sessions for Professionalism in Year 5 during 2019 and was part of the team writing the Clinical Reasoning course in 2018-2019. She is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and was a runner up for 'creative teacher' in the Burnley student led awards in 2020.
Katherine was a General Practice Partner in Blackburn for 24 years in a small practice with many families of three generations. The practice had a very diverse population, half of the patients were white and half of Asian ethnic minority origin. She was involved in training nurses, medical students, Foundation Year doctors and GP Registrars. She also led the Early Clinical Experience teaching for first and second year medical students from Manchester University at the Royal Blackburn Hospital. This involved teaching Clinical Communication Skills and encouraging the students to reflect on their first patient interactions. In 2001, Katherine was clinical lead for improving the care of people with Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) care in Blackburn with Darwen and worked as part of the area wide team to put in place the National Service Framework for CHD. This involved training staff and co-ordinating nurse clinics to improve secondary prevention of CHD Since 2018 she has worked as a GP locum in East 成人视频.
