Dr Robert Sims

Robert teaches pharmacology and neuroscience subjects on the MBBS, MPAS and BSc Medical Sciences programmes at the University of Central 成人视频. His research interests are in neuroscience, particularly in the mechanisms of cellular communication in the brain.
Robert graduated with a degree in Pharmacology from Edinburgh in 1998. Since starting his PhD, he has twenty years experience in academic research examining neuronal and astrocytic signalling, with publications mainly in the areas of learning and memory and sleep. He worked as a postdoctoral researchers at the University of London School of Pharmacy, University of Warwick and Aston University, and maintains a research collaboration with colleagues at Aston University. He has been teaching since 2008, gained his PGCPP with distinction in 2015, and joined the UCLan School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2016 to teach medical sciences and pharmacology.

Robert is interested in the mechanisms of neuronal and astrocytic signalling. He has worked mainly in the mechanisms of synaptic plasticity in learning and memory, and the role of adenosine in homeostatic sleep. He has extensive experience with electrophysiological techniques, fluorescence imaging, optogenetics, microelectrode biosensors in both tissue and cell culture.
