CVCL Award winners 2024 and celebrating 19,000 hours of student volunteering

Congratulations to this year's winners and nominees of the Centre of Volunteering and Community Leadership (CVCL) Awards.

Over 150 students and community volunteers from across ³ÉÈËÊÓƵ attended an annual awards evening to recognise the hard work and dedication of volunteers throughout the year. The awards evening also celebrates the positive impact of students' volunteering hours across a wide range of charity and community organisations.

Claire Eustace, Volunteering Coordinator, said: "The CVCL recognises the achievements of students and community volunteers and leaders from across ³ÉÈËÊÓƵ as part of an annual celebration event. As a university we want to take time every year to thank volunteers for the skills, commitment and thousands of volunteer hours given."

CVCL Achievements 2023/24

  • CVCL has supported over 800 students to engage in volunteering since last year's celebration event
  • Worked with third sector partners to offer over 500 volunteering opportunities
  • Student volunteers have given over 19,000 hours of their time to their local community
  • Using the Office for National Statistics (2013) Replacement Cost approach for establishing the economic cost of volunteering, it suggests that students have contributed over £276,000 to our local community.

“Volunteering gives you the space to learn and give. It’s like a hobby you don’t have to pay for. You can volunteer with people working towards a similar goal and help other people in some way.”
