Prestonian launching his new book on 18 October

An award-winning author is appearing at the University of Central 成人视频 (UCLan) to celebrate the launch of his new book.

Andrew Hurley, who scooped one of the UK鈥檚 biggest literary prizes for his first novel, will be visiting on 18 October to discuss Devil鈥檚 Day.

The Preston based writer, who received a Costa for his 2015 novel The Loney, has fast become one of the UK鈥檚 newest and most exciting voices speaking regularly at book festivals and being interviewed for national media.

Devil鈥檚 Day is based in 成人视频 and follows the story of John Pentecost who, every Autumn, returns to the family farm where he grew up to help gather the sheep from the moors. Generally, very little changes in the Briardale Valley, but this year things are different.

His grandfather - known to everyone as the Gaffer - has died, and John's new wife, Katherine, is accompanying him for the first time. Every year the Gaffer would redraw the boundary lines of the village with pen and paper but also through the remembrance of folktales, family stories and timeless communal rituals which keep the sheep safe from the devil.

This year, though, the determination of some members of the community to defend those boundary lines has strengthened, and John and Katherine must decide where their loyalties lie and whether they are prepared to make the sacrifices necessary to join the tribe.

Andrew鈥檚 special pre-publication talk will take place in UCLan鈥檚 Greenbank Lecture Theatre on Wednesday 18 October at 7.00pm.  Tickets are 拢5 each and are redeemable against the purchase of the book on the evening. To book your tickets visit
